2012 Annual Postcard Exhibition

During April 18-21 2012, the Alberta Printmakers’ Society held its annual postcard exhibition. Each year, the Alberta Printmakers’ Society organizes a hand-made postcard exhibition and exchange in the Artist Proof Gallery. Interested artists were invited to submit 10 original 4” x 6” artworks for display in the gallery. The Artist Proof Gallery displayed pieces from each submission, and each artist received 8 postcards from randomly selected artists in return by mail or during the show.

It was a madhouse that evening with a  swarm of print lovers descending upon A/P. The first hour of the evening was easily full of the most madness; it was practically shoulder to shoulder at one point as the swarm ravaged its contents. Selected artists with their newly traded goodies flaunting them in an understandably boastful manner; I too was among them with jealous eyes fixated upon the cards I desired.

Artists poured exceptional skill into many of these time consuming postcards; some easily worth a hundred dollars a piece. I would encourage artists for next year to submit more then one set of postcards to continue this frenzy of art love; that’s certainly going to be my plan.
