The Alberta Printmakers’ Society and Artist Proof Gallery is pleased to present Madrid-based artist Mariana Moranduzzo’s upcoming solo exhibition, Transmutation of Being.
Mariana Moranduzzo explores the proximity between earth and air, presenting the organic as a container of a virtual reality. While the presence of the mind is felt as an inner and subjective reality, the surface is the container of this hidden, invisible reality – the two are linked and connected, being part of the same whole. Between the outside air and the inside, there is a thin line occupied by the paper surface, the space that is stretched to contain thought. Moranduzzo’s work observes the transmutation of form into something else and from there, back again or further to another extension of itself. An observed transmutation of thought means a transmutation of being.
Mariana Moranduzzo was born in Porto in 1986. She studied at Faculty of Architecture of University of Porto and at Faculty of Fine Art of University of Porto. Currently, she lives and works in Madrid, exploring ways of expanding printmaking practice in close contact with other subject areas. Her work approaches the thin line between the image and the object and is mainly concerned with image construction within an installation-based context
Transmutation of Being will be on display in the Artist Proof Gallery from April 25 to June 2, 2012, with an opening reception on Friday, April 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The Artist Proof Gallery is located at 2010F 11 St. SE in Calgary. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free and all are welcome!
