Title: Programming Assistant

Organization: Alberta Printmakers’ Society (A/P)

Terms of Employment: June 27 to August 31, 2012 (30 hours per week)

Salary: $12.00/hour

Overview:

Located in Calgary, the Alberta Printmakers’ Society (A/P) is a non-profit, artist-run organization that was founded in 1989. The Society’s mandate is to provide a resource for printmaking artists and to increase public awareness of printmaking as a contemporary fine arts medium. The only organization of its kind in southern Alberta, A/P provides programming in three key areas of artistic support: the Artist Proof Gallery exhibition program; the printmaking studio and education centre; and as a member-based artist collective. 

Qualifications – The successful candidate must be a post-secondary student currently enrolled in a fine arts or non-profit management program, who will be returning to full-time studies in September 2012. The candidate must also posses:

  • An understanding of artist-run culture, familiarity with Calgary arts organizations and the not-for-profit sector
  • Knowledge of art history, contemporary art and an interest in printmaking
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work without direct supervision
  • Strong organizational skills: the ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with web-based communication platforms (blogs, Facebook, e-newsletters)

Responsibilities – The Programming Assistant will report to the Art Centre Director and the Board of Directors.

The selected candidate will be in charge of organizing our annual P.I.Y.: Print It Yourself! festival for 2012, as well as helping to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization. Specific duties include:

  • Coordinating event volunteers and schedules for the PIY festival
  • Managing the festival budget
  • Festival programming delivery, including purchasing supplies, prepping the gallery and studio, training volunteers
  • Manage all internal and external communications relating to the festival, including media releases, press interviews, and direct-mail campaigns
  • Office duties including filing, answering phones, general cleaning
  • Welcoming people who visit the gallery and studio
  • Giving studio orientations, monitoring studio inventory
  • Reporting to the Board at monthly meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
