“Origin Returning” by Kyla Fischer on now in the Artist Proof Gallery!

Origin Returning by Kyla Fischer

September 7 to October 15, 2011

Download invitation

Opening Reception: Friday, September 9th from 6:30-8:30pm, artist in attendance

The Engraving Culture Speaker Series presents Kyla Fischer on Thursday, Sep. 8 at 5:30-6:30pm at the Alberta College of Art and Design, in Annex C.  Located at 1407-14 Ave NW

Kyla Fischer’s practice is inspired by personal experiences in nature, and focuses on themes concerning the transience of life and human existence. The work featured in this exhibition is inspired by a poem written in the 11thCentury by the Chinese poet, Su Tung-P’o.  The poem stimulates self reflection through its descriptive language and written format.  An image of sublime nature is presented  in two verses, the second being a sort of mirror image of the first, causing one to reflect on the cyclical nature of our existence.  The prints in this exhibition are created in response to the lyrical language of the text; the colours, forms, and atmosphere of the printed imagery directly drawn from the poem itself.

Kyla Fischer received her Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Alberta in 2007.  She has worked as an instructor for the Department of Art and Design and for the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta as well as for the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) in Edmonton.  Kyla has exhibited her work nationally and internationally in such countries as Turkey, Thailand, Germany, and India.  She has completed artist residencies in printmaking at the Frans Masereel Centre in Belgium and most recently at the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Origin Returning is on display in the Artist Proof Gallery from September 7 to October 15, 2011, with an opening reception on Friday, September 9th from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Admission is free and all are welcome! For more information please visit ww.albertaprintmakers.ca.
